Who collects Indian art? Turns out that a subcontinental movie star like Anil Kapoor buys art with every film he signs:
An insider reveals, “When Anil married Sunita, she made him promise that for every film he signed, he would buy a painting. This started from his breakthrough film Woh Saat Din. Almost 30 years later, they own a fabulous and valuable collection of art.
While most of the paintings adorn the walls of the various rooms of their Juhu bungalow, the expensive ones have been put together in a special room. There are rare paintings by M F Husain, Tyeb Mehta, Jamini Roy and Anjolie Ela Menon. Sunita, who has an exquisite taste for art, selects the works while hubby Anil simply signs the cheque.
When Anil performed risky action scenes after his career took off, colleagues would tease him, “Why are you breaking a leg and risking your life over a shot? Your wife will go and buy a painting with the money.”
