What the Fisher Collection Does for SFMoMA

June 30, 2010 by Marion Maneker

The Fisher Collection is getting an unveiling in its new home at SFMoMA, according to the Contra Costa Times:

Boasting more than 45 pieces by Calder, 41 by minimalist painter Ellsworth Kelly and 21 by Warhol, the Fishers’ treasure trove contains some of the largest numbers of pieces by those individual artists and others. It fills in gaps in the museum’s holdings, such as paintings by Georg Baselitz, a German neo-expressionist artist who specializes in tense, angst-filled canvasses and Cy Twombly, who is known for his calligraphic, graffitilike works. In some places, the collections overlap. The museum currently owns several pieces by German artist Gerhard Richter. With the addition of the Fishers’ paintings, the number SFMOMA can display swells to nearly 30.
