Cruise to Nowhere: Royal Caribbean Drops Park West

May 17, 2010 by Marion Maneker

Park West Gallery’s strategy of suing its critic for defamation–Park West says the critic is a shill for class-action lawyers–was risky. The loss in court resulted in a judgment against the firm. Now momentum is running against Park West as Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein announced the line would discontinue Park West’s auctions at different times on different ships over the next few months, according to USA Today:

“Our contract with Park West Art Services has expired and we have decided not to renew it,” Goldstein says. […] Goldstein did not say why Royal Caribbean is dropping Park West, which dominates the business of art auctions on cruise ships, but the decision comes as the auctioneer faces a number of complaints over its practices.
