Dealer Cleared in Stolen Rockwell Case

Newport, RI dealer Judith Cutler sold Steven Spielberg some 50 Norman Rockwell paintings including one that had been stolen.  Now a judge has sided with her and it turns out the owner of the painting who accused Cutler had received a portion of the proceeds of the sale when Cutler originally purchased the painting in 1988. Now Cutler’s glad she pressed the case:

“Once you are associated with selling a stolen painting, there is always a cloud over you … It’s like a scarlet letter. The only way to clear your name is to go all way to the end … and not to settle. I knew what I did was right,” said Cutler. “It wasn’t comfortable. It was a horrible three years.
