World Record £6.2m Set for Rug

Christie’s set the world record for a carpet today in London.

The Kirman “Vase” carpet woven in the 17th Century in South Persia was estimated in the £200-300k range but sold for £6,201,250 ($9,599,535/€7,038,419.) Christie’s press department reports that:

The previous world record was £2,270,408/$4,450,500/€2,870,967 for a silk Isfahan rug, circa 1600 at Christie’s New York in June 2008
