Matisse That Once Set Record Returns to Market

The BBC has a new Matisse that will be included in May’s Impressionist and Modern sale at Sotheby’s in New York:

Bouquet for July 14, 1919, which goes on sale on 5 May, is expected to fetch between $18m (£11.8) and $25m (£16.5m). Sotheby’s said the work “heralds the fresh and colourful style that would define Matisse’s career from 1919”. A private European collector bought the painting in 1982 for $1.3m (£860,000) – a record at the time for a Matisse.
