Chuck Close Wasn't Impressed by Armory Show

March 8, 2010 by Marion Maneker

New York Magazine stopped Chuck Close at the opening party at MoMA and got an earful about the fair’s short-comings:

“Honestly, I thought it was a lot less interesting than usual,” Close said of the art fair, housed at Piers 92 and 94 this month. “I don’t know why exactly, and I don’t know what I would add to it, but it didn’t seem to have much, especially compared to Frieze or even Miami Basel. It was very dull and ordinary.”
