The theme of the 17th Biennale is “The Beauty Of Distance – Songs Of Survival In The Precarious Age”.

Artistic director David Elliott says the idea is to explore life from a different persepctive. “Wherever you are, you’re going to be long way away from something. And that’s what it’s about. It’s actually about how distance can be a very good, a very necessary thing,” he said. “Distance gives us space to be who we are. Distance gives us freedom.”

He says it will also be a show that will stand up anywhere around the world.
