The New York Times’s Gadgetwise blog features a new iPhone app that helps you find art exhibitions wherever you are:
The app maps nearby contemporary art exhibits. You not only get out, but maybe broaden your horizons—and without risking frostbite.
Artnear is simple to use. Turn the app on and let it use your location, and you see a list of exhibitions, arranged by proximity. Filters let you set the radius of searches from a tenth of a mile to 100 miles. A second filter lets you choose the types of venues, such as museums, auction houses, art fairs or you can choose “all.”It can also be set to look for art in a region you intend to visit, Including overseas. You can search by artist name, which will show any place they are being exhibited.
There are two versions of the app, Artnear, which is free (but you will see ads), and Artnear Pro for $4.99, which has no ads and lets you bookmark shows you want to remember for later.
