Armory Show Shuffles Dealers

January 12, 2010 by Marion Maneker

Lindsay Pollock reports on the big mix of galleries that have changed among the Armory Show roster. She cites 43% turnover in Contemporary galleries. Of the 211 exhibitors, 92 will be galleries that did not participate in 2009. Of those, 62 galleries will be new to the fair:

  • Chelsea strongholds who are not returning include Marianne Boesky, Tanya Bonakdar, Cheim & Read, Anton Kern and Mitchell-Innes & Nash. London’s Timothy Taylor is also out, as are a number of non-profits who had previously taken part and are likely working with reduced budgets.  [… ] Despite dizzying turn-over among the contemporary dealers, the fair includes a number of returning major players including Deitch Projects, Hauser & Wirth, White Cube, David Zwirner, Victoria Miro and 303 Gallery.
  • The Modern arm of the fair, on Pier 92, includes 74 exhibitors including Babcock Galleries, Knoedler and Company, Mary-Anne Martin and Washburn. Edelman Arts.
