ABMB's Guiding Hands

December 3, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Schonholzer_SpieglerThe Miami Herald has lunch with Marc Spiegler and Annette Schönholzer, the duo who run ArtBasel Miami Beach. The paper calls them low key and competent but won’t let them escape the shadow of their predecessor, Sam Keller:

“Sam was a very gregarious guy,” says Miami collector Dennis Scholl. “These guys are a little more low key. But maybe the time you have with them is a little more personal. Sam was always very busy. He was everywhere.

“I have been very impressed with Marc and Annette. They took over under very difficult circumstances with the changes in the world economy. But Basel hasn’t missed a beat. In fact, it’s bigger than ever.”

“They want to know everything. They are very attentive,” says Rosa de la Cruz who, with husband Carlos, this week opens a three-story, 30,000-square-foot space in the Design District for their vast collection of contemporary art. “Sam Keller created something fantastic. But the new directors are doing a great job taking Art Basel Miami Beach forward.”
