The Cleveland Plain Dealer‘s Steven Litt announces three new acquisitions by the Cleveland Museum of Art. The purchases come on the heels of a major court decision allowing the museum to divert a substantial sum from the institution’s acquisitions fund into the completion of its physical plant.
They include a Migration Period European brooch in the form of a six-pointed star, a Yuan Dynasty Buddhist painting of the Buddha, and the “Mapa estelar en arbol (Stellar Map in Tree),” by contemporary artist Gabriel Orozco of Mexico.
Last month, the museum also bought an Alice Neel painting at Sotheby’s.
