Pollock on Karpidas

November 12, 2009 by Marion Maneker

The consignor of the $43m Warhol painting was first reported as Pauline Karpidas by Lindsay Pollock in the middle of last night’s sale. That detail was then picked up by other outlets without crediting Pollock.

Her short Bloomberg piece reporting the sale and Karpidas’s ownership only gave Karpidas’s name and the fact that she is a London-based collector. Pollock adds some details this morning: “She’s got homes in New York, Athens and Hydra,” Pollock says. “She recently bought a Louise Bourgeois bronze and owns lots of work by Cindy Sherman and Richard Prince.” Pollock adds that Karpidas has a large collection of late Warhol works.
