Today’s sale of Contemporary Art at Christie’s, their First Open sale, went off fairly well. But the string of Raoul de Keyser canvases that all sold for prices at or near his auction record was a real wake up call.
Three works by the nearly eighty-year-old artist were offered throughout the sale. Each was estimated below $20,000 but all three brought premium prices above $60,000. Depart (pictured, left) was the most valuable lot making $68,500 and the two remaining works, Leaving and Zacht Trio, both went home with a lucky buyer for $62,500.
