In & Out at the International Show

September 8, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Lindsay Pollock reports on the dealers dropping out of October’s Art and Antiques fair at the Armory. All the galleries that have pulled out have been replaced by others (go to LindsayPollock.com for a complete list):

The 21-year-old International Fine Art and Antiques Dealers Show has lost 15 exhibitors as dealers slash marketing budgets in response to the wobbly art and antiques market. The show will be held Oct. 16-22 at the Park Avenue Armory.

“To go along with the economy, we’ve pulled back,” said Alan Chait, of Ralph M. Chait, a New York Chinese porcelain and art dealer and longtime exhibitor who won’t be showing in October. “It’s the times, not the show.”

The  International is also hindered by competition from the Winter Antiques Show, dealers say. The Winter Show is held in the same venue in January, and run as a non-profit event, with less expensive booth fees.
