Whitney Cuts Last in NY

August 18, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Crain’s NY Business reports that the Whitney Museum, which is in the middle of a $500m campaign to build a satellite in New York’s downtown by the newly opened High Line, has cut some staff:

The Whitney Museum of American Art has quietly laid off 4% of its staff, in an effort to cut costs during the recession. A total of eight full- and part-time employees lost their jobs, bringing the museum’s headcount down to 205, a spokesman said. The cuts include a major gifts officer, a senior lecturer in education and an adjunct curator of architecture.
