Tension at the Times Culture Desk

July 31, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Lindsay Pollock reports that Wendy Moonen has resigned from her New York Times antiques column:

After more than 12 years as a regular reporter on the beat, Moonan has quit working for the paper. She cited “philosophical differences” with her editor, noting in an e-mail message, “I was happy covering high-end antiques, but I felt the Times is now more interested in yard sales.”

Moonan said she was frustrated by the Times’ lack of interest in the international art market. “The antiques world is much more globalized, but the Times doesn’t think this interests its readers,’’ she e-mailed.
