Brad Pitt Gets a Lesson in Indian Art

July 21, 2009 by Marion Maneker

It seems every corner of the art world is focused on Brad Pitt’s buying. First, we had wall-to-wall coverage of Pitt’s Art Basel purchase of Neo Rauch painting from Zwirner. Then, we were told that Indian art would not achieve global status until David Geffen started buying. Now, we’re told that Indian designer Payal Kapoor has been tutoring the Hollywood figure on Indian artists:

“Brad is an art enthusiast and when I spoke to him, I introduced him to Indian art. He has collected works of many artists in his house. After getting to know about Indian art, he asked me to send more information about works of Indian artists. He is a down-to-earth guy and it was a pleasure meeting him. My sister, Puja Jain (who was there too) and I were really impressed with him – he’s a big Hollywood star but he had no airs,” Payal told us.

So, is he going to invest in Indian art soon? “He bought the works of an American artist from the exhibition where I met him. And when I spoke about Indian art and my association with it, he sounded genuinely interested,” Payal added.
