Where Will the Art Go?

July 17, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Ferttita HouseFrank Ferttita is a casino heir, owner of the leading mixed martial arts league and, according to ArtNews, is one of the top 200 collectors along with his brother Lorenzo. Today, the Wall Street Journal reports that Ferttita just bought a beach house in Laguna Beach for somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 million:

Mr. Fertitta and his brother Lorenzo own the Ultimate Fighting Championship circuit, which they bought for $2 million as a struggling martial-arts fighting operation in 2001. Fortune magazine listed Frank Fertitta as the third highest-paid American male in 2007, with $146.6 million. Mr. Fertitta and his wife, Jill, bought the house in the name of a family trust; the price couldn’t be learned, although it was below the listing price, a person close to the deal said. In Laguna Beach’s Emerald Bay neighborhood, the 5,800-square-foot shingled Cape Cod on 0.24 acres has five bedrooms and six baths. There’s a pool, a guest house and beach access.
