Lester Imperialism

July 15, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Brooks Mason reported earlier this week that David Lester is now officially involved in rehabilitating the Olympia Art Fair. Lester is now the white knight for art fairs and his hopes for the Olympia fair are substantial:

“I can take Olympia to reach new heights when positioned as a Maastricht type event,” says Mr Lester, who may change the dates of the June fair to avoid competing with Art Basel. “Our overall goal is to include a New York event as well,” he adds.

It will be interesting to see whether Lester can fight the tide of recession and the surfeit of art fairs especially as dealers consider replacing the defunct Grosvenor House fair.
