Father/Son Gallery Split

July 8, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Lindsay Pollock reports:

Gavin Spanierman, son of 58th Street dealer Ira Spanierman, left his father’s gallery and set up shop at 22 East 82nd Street as a private dealer. He had worked with his father for 20 years.

Dealers with knowledge of the split say the parting was not  friendly. A staffer at the Spanierman Gallery who answered the phone declined to give out the phone number of Gavin’s gallery, suggesting instead that it was retrievable using Google. Spanierman declined to discuss the reasons he left his father’s gallery.
