Castlestone Goes on a Buying Spree

July 8, 2009 by Marion Maneker

The Castlestone sponsored art fund, Collection of Modern Art, made some moves to back up their contention that art prices are temporarily depressed and post-war artists will continue to rise in value. Constanze Kubern is the fund’s art expert. She was quoted on a website for finance professionals:

“Post-war art is becoming more interesting as an investment due to its decreasing supply. We intend to buy post-war art from deceased or non-producing artists with established reputation, rather than contemporary cutting-edge art which has been subject to speculative buying in recent years. The auction houses also see this as the most solid part of the market at the moment, which helps to validate our investment approach,” said Kubern.

The fund bought works by Yves Klein, Keith Haring and Arman as wells as Picasso’s Adolescents for £265,000 and Andy Warhol’s Five Guns for £211,000.
