June 13, 2009 by Marion Maneker

More than forty years ago, a small group of Basel gallerists decided to launch an art fair. Art Basel’s debut in 1970 was an art fair with 120 exhibitors from ten countries. It then had around 16′000 visitors. Today, Art 40 Basel features galleries from 31 countries in Europe, America, and Asia and more than 60′000 visitors are expected.
