Sotheby's Latin American Sale = $9.4m

portinariWith 213 lots on offer and 137 sold, Sotheby’s Latin American sale was 64.3% sold by lot and slightly more by value.

The top ten lots accounted for a third of the total sale, including a day sale. The top lot of the auction was Diego Rivera’s Niña con Rebozo which brought in $794,500 or twice the low estimate.

Some other stand out lots in the sale were Jesus Rafael Soto’s Modulation which went for $326,500 over a $200,000 high estimate and Candido Portinari’s Cangaceiro which made $324,500 even though the estimate was between $80-100,000. Matta’s Oeurope Meme painted in 1989 sold for $242,500 or more than twice the $120,000 high estimate.
