Avery Shines at Christie's American Sale

Milton Avery, Sketching By the SeaMilton Avery’s Sketching by the Sea tops Christie’s American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture sale today by making $2.2m against an $800,000 high estimate. George Bellows and Marsden Hartley works also did well but the rest of the sale failed to punch through $20 million estimate, bringing in $16.8 million.
