Day Follows Night at Christie's

May 14, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Ripley Street RidgeThis Wayne Theibaud streetscape, “Ripley Street Ridge” just sold for $1.022m against an $850,000 high estimate at Christie’s morning session. A Warhol “Four Marilyns” from his reversal series also made more than $1m over an $800,000 estimate. (Reminder: these are premium prices and include more than 12.5% in auction house commission.)

So the day follows night at Christie’s as Contemporary art buyers can still be counted on to bid for what they consider the best works. The morning tally is almost $12.3 million.
