Windfall Painting Helps Earthquake Victims

April 20, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Wendy Howe lives in Rochester, New York. When she heard that a local restaurant was organizing donations for earthquake relief in Central Italy, she went to an unusual source to raise money:

Howe bought an oil painting at a garage sale for $50, but experts say it is worth $20,000 dollars. Howe said after she sells the painting, she will donate half of the proceeds to Italian earthquake victims and the other half to help young people in the City of Rochester.

“I could take a trip to Italy with this money, which is on the top 10 lists of things to do. I live in Rochester. I see the need everyday. And this was a blessing for me that was not just meant for me,” said Howe.
