Private Art Auctions to Debut Friday

April 13, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Colin Gleadell reports on the transition at Bloomsbury auction house:

Bloomsbury Auctions has decided to end its stand-alone auctions devoted to modern and contemporary art and revert to its core specialities of books, prints and photographs.

Angus Maguire, who was their modern and contemporary art consultant, has now set up his own online auction business, Private Art Auctions (www.privateartauctions.com), which is conducting its first internet sale that will conclude on Friday.

A highlight is an early still life painting by Malcolm Morley, the first winner of the Turner Prize, estimated at £20,000 to £30,000.
