Eigen+ Art: "First day, we're happy."

March 4, 2009 by Marion Maneker

Kate Taylor talks to Berlin dealers Eigen + Art:

Eigen + Art is doing very well with its booth of works by the young artist Matthias Weischer. The gallery’s owner, Harry Lybke, said that the gallery has sold one of the large canvases in the booth, for $184,000, as well as two small canvases, for $35,000 each; two drawings, for $1,600 each; and a large print, in an edition of 20, for $10,000. The small painting was bought by an American, the large one by a German collector. Another large, vividly colored canvas on the outside of the booth is on reserve.

“For the first day, we’re happy,” Mr. Lybke said with a twinkle in his eye. Mr. Lybke is famous for having discovered Neo Rauch, whom he still represents.
