Goodbye Dubai

February 14, 2009 by Marion Maneker

The Guardian chronicles the collapse of Dubai’ prosperity from the twin vantage points of British ex-patriots and Indian migrant laborers. It’s not a pretty story from either perspective. But the abrupt cut-off of credit has hit the emirate very hard–though the government is doing everything it can to keep a lid on the news. Although these stories don’t deal with the art market directly, they do inform on the underlying economics of an important emerging art center like Dubai.
