Alex Wong/Getty ImagesCulture Monster’s Christopher Knight details Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn’s antipathy towards museums and Federal financing. He’s the driver behind the Senate vote to exclude Arts funding from the Stimulus package.

Now Coburn is trying to ensure that no art museum — or theater or other performing arts center — will be eligible for jobs funds in the federal stimulus package. A Coburn amendment to block such allegedly “wasteful” jobs spending passed late Friday, 73 votes to 24.
