Sotheby's Contemporary Day Sale (London)

February 6, 2009 by Marion Maneker

l09621-105-lr-1Sotheby’s had another strong sale today with what looks like 89% of the 147 lots sold for a total of £7.3m. A random stroll through results reveals a fair number of not-so-strong prices for formerly “hot” artists. But Sotheby’s clearly stood behind it’s earlier assertion that it would demonstrate that there is a market for Contemporary art.  Some artists who did well were Frank Auerbach, William Kentridge, Anselm Kiefer, Feng Zhengjie and Victor Vasarely.
