Matisse, Nude in a Rocking Chair

A Berlin Gallery Loses 30 Works to Thieves Over New Year’s

The owner of Berlin’s Fasanengalerie came in late on New Year’s Day to find signs that someone had pried open the front door to his gallery. Inside robbers had taken 30 works of art, including drawings by Braque, Picassoa and the Matisse, Nude in a Rocking Chair (left.) The total value of the lost art, including two sculptures, is estimated at $250,000.

The quantity of art and the weight of the sculptures suggest more than one person was involved in the heist.
