ShContemporary Tears Down Exhibit of Logo-Tattooed Pigs
The story in Bloomberg doesn’t make it clear what the issue is but Belgian artist Wim Delvoye tattooed eight pigs with corporate logos and then raised them. Workers at the ShContemporary fair are dismantling the stand where they were to be displayed:
“It’s unbelievable how aggressive they are becoming in stopping this show,” Delvoye said today by phone from Shanghai. “We have collectors who’ve traveled to China all the way from Europe to see the pigs. They’re very disappointed.”
The article goes on to say that Delvoye sells the pig skins and Chanel had made two into a bag featuring the Disney characters. Given that the logos were Disney characters and the Louis Vuitton logo, this may simply be an example of the Chinese government finally cracking down on counterfeiters.
