Severini Leads 102 million Pound Sale of Hand-Picked Winners with an Impressive 90% of Lots Sold
Proving that there are many different ways to win a horse race, Sotheby’s posted a very strong sale of 55 lots. Without a blockbuster lot, the sale still made the high end of the pre-sale estimate. The average lot value was slightly more than 4 million pounds ($8 million), which is a very large number. The median lot was 937 pounds. Gauguin, Leger, Giacometti and Severini shot high above the estimate range in the top ten but the sale was filled with other upside surprises: Kandinsky, Marquet, Soutine, Feininger and Hepworth all had strong showings.
