Four Artists Get Evening Sale Billing

Sotheby’s makes a concerted effort to break out Contemporary Indian and Pakistani artists in their evening Contemporary art sales. With eight works estimated at a combined value of $4 million, Sotheby’s hopes the sale will continue a trend that promises to refresh and renew the Contemporary art category. Sotheby’s James Sevier comments (after the jump):

We have witnessed a huge growth in demand for works by Indian artists over the past 18 months; their work is increasingly being sought by Western and Indian collectors. This demand has seen new record price levels continually being achieved at auction. We expect the works on offer in July to follow recent trends, affirming the position of these artists as some of the most innovative and influential names on the international Contemporary Art auction market today.

Raqib Shaw’s Chrysanthemum & Bee, estimated at between $160,000 and $240,000, (pictured) is among the works by Anish Kapoor, Bharti Ker and Subodh Gupta.
