Anna Somers Cocks Wants Museums to Reject the Sackler Family’s Future Donations: The founder of The Art Newspaper has a long denunciation of the Sackler family based upon the New Yorker article outlining the role the family’s pharmaceutical company has played in the opioid epidemic in the US. Somers Cocks asks, “This is where we ask ourselves how much the cultural projects they have sponsored weigh when put in the scales against the misery Oxycontin has caused.”
That’s a legitimate question. It also raises the question of whether The Art Newspaper will leave it there or begin to investigate the sources of other major donations to cultural institutions. …
Calvin and Andy Team Up: The Andy Warhol market isn’t very hot right now but that’s not putting off Calvin Klein’s new creative director, Raf Simons, who has big plans for collaborations between Calvin Klein and Andy Warhol, according to Vogue:
- “Calvin Klein has entered into a four-year agreement with the Andy Warhol Foundation that will allow the fashion company to license Warhol’s art across its collections and activations. Through 2020, Calvin Klein will have access to the full breadth of Warhol’s creations—including never-before-published works—and the ability to use them (mostly) how it pleases. Calvin Klein will financially contribute to the foundation’s endowment that provides grants for contemporary visual art.” …
Apparently the LA Art Market Is Getting Its Own Movie: According to the New York Post earlier this week, Jake Gyllenhall is marinating in the LA art world for a new movie with his former Nightcrawler director and co-star. This if from Page Six’s ‘sources’:
