Sotheby’s has announced a restituted Pissarro that was on loan to the Israel Museum to lead London’s Impressionist and Modern sale:
With the dearth of top-flight Impressionist paintings coming up for sale, the auction house is billing “Boulevard Montmartre, Matinée de Printemps,” as “the most important Impressionist masterwork to come to auction in the last decade,” estimating it will bring $11 million to $16 million when it comes before buyers on Feb. 5 in London.
“The estimate is conservative,” though, said Philip Hook, a senior Impressionist and modern art expert at Sotheby’s in London. “There hasn’t been another Paris street scene for sale for at least a generation.”
