Georgina Adam reports on the Jennifer Rubell art project that was Simon de Pury’s wedding reception:
It was quite a party. Auctioneer Simon de Pury and Michaela Neumeister, who married six months ago, celebrated in style this week at the Saatchi Gallery, with a “food project” by Jennifer Rubell, artist daughter of Florida collectors Don and Mira Rubell. The dinner “tables” were actually 68 beds, dressed with white linen and fluffed-up pillows, and heaped with food – from crayfish and pasta to whole hams. Before dinner, the 600 guests watched Simon and Michaela getting ready for the feast in glass-doored cubicles. De Pury had his hair cut and dried before shattering the glass door and claiming his bride – who broke her glass to join him. Rubell is known for her food installations, which can get quite messy – one, at the Brooklyn Museum earlier this year, featured cheese, melted by hair dryers, cascading from the ceiling on to a pile of crackers.
