Christie’s held a very orderly 20th Century Design sale in New York yesterday. With $1.24m sold through 99 lots which was 89% of those offered. That’s up from $981,000 and 81% a year before. None of the works sold for more than $50,000.
These design sales are too small to be any sort of reliable market indicator. But the fact that a sale in less established category had a high sell through and stronger numbers without any star lots of great value, has to be seen as good news.
