Sotheby’s Paris sale of Asian Art had some huge pops over the estimate range. This is getting to be a regular feature of Asian art sales, especially in the category of Chinese works of art. In Paris, the two noteworthy items were:
Lot 65: A Ming Dynasty Blue-and-White flask estimated at €300k was sold for €1,744,750. The flask had been in the same French family since 1946.
Lot 263: A Qianlong era Blue-and-White Moonflask estimated at €25k made €432,750.
The entire sale brought in €7.8m with these two lots representing almost 28% of the total.
