Supporting Art Basel Miami
The Miami Herald‘s Art Basel coverage delves into the support staff that keep the art world running. From advisers to framers to movers and storage facilities, Miami is over-flowing with art world services. The majority of those profiled had been in the business for many years and it’s this consistency that gives the services such authority.
(More details on the services after the jump.)
Here’s how the Herald describes The Fortress, a huge art storage facility that is just beginning to get competition in the form of an 86,000 square foot facility opening in time for Art Basel Miami:
One way The Fortress offers this sense of security is through low turnover among its eight-member staff. Jones has been there for 25 years. The Fortress has used the same janitor for 15 years. All but one employee have been working there for at least 10 years. ”When you’re storing artwork, you don’t want to see a new face at the desk every day,” says Jones.
